It is our pleasure to announce the 1st Transatlantic NECTAR (Network on European Communications and Transport Activities Research) Conference, to be held in Arlington, Virginia on 18-20 June 2009, and to make this 2nd Call for Papers.

The Conference is aimed at developing a better understanding of the way that transport and communications networks are evolving in a rapidly changing world. It will consider the complex and diverse challenges facing providers of transport and communications services and those responsible for establishing the institutional structures in which they are provided.

Sessions: The meeting will be divided between sessions devoted to submitted papers, and to a number of specified thematic sessions. The latter will focus on transatlantic initiatives that embrace both the commonality of transport, communications, and mobility issues found on either sides of the Atlantic, and the differences in approaches that have been applied to analysing them. The call is for volunteers who would like to organize a thematic session, and for those who wish to submit a research paper on themes relating to transport, communications, and mobility.

Deadline: Abstracts of papers should be submitted electronically to AbstractsNectar@feweb.vu.nl, using the abstract form attached to this message. Those wishing to organize a thematic session should contact Ken Button directly (KButton@gmu.edu) offering a session title and the names of participants and titles of their contributions. The deadline for all submissions is 15 March, 2009.

Conference Fee: No conference fee will be charged to those who have been members of NECTAR for at least two years, including 2009. Details for NECTAR membership can be found at: www.nectar-eu.org. The primary author of the first 40 papers by NECTAR members of two years standing will enjoy free accommodation for the duration of the conference.

Non-NECTAR members can participate at this transatlantic Conference, by paying the NECTAR membership fee plus an additional 50 euro. This also gives them a two-year membership of NECTAR.

Further information (accommodation, etc.) will be provided soon at: http://nectar.gmu.edu

We look forward to your submissions.
